The Boone and Crockett Club, founded in 1887 by Theodore Roosevelt and George Bird Grinnell, was a key force in early conservation. Grinnell, who was also the editor of Forest and Stream, used the magazine to promote conservation. The club and Grinnell worked to protect wildlife and establish the national park and forest systems.
