Grozik says in his introduction, "Few things in life are as sacred to me as a well-balanced game gun, a biddable bird dog, and an understanding spouse. . . . Selecting the perfect game gun, like marrying the ideal mate, has renewed my faith in miracles." In the pages of his book, Grozik introduces the reader to a colorful cast of characters he has met in his perennial quest to possess "that poetic blend of flaming English walnut and tempered ordnance steel." Second only to his search for a perfect game gun is his desire to own just one more good bird dog. His gun dog must exhibit blind obedience to its woefully untrained master, must point stylishly, hold steady to wing and shot, and tenderly retrieve game birds while its master fills its ears with empty threats and all manner of confusing commands. Grozik, humorously, never admits to having any other type of dog. If any of this strikes a familiar chord, then this is the book for you. You may not find the solution to all your birdhunting afflictions in this book, but you can take solace in knowing there are others who share your sentiment, if not your predicament. This is a lively, well written, and entertaining book.
