Williamson was a Scottish hunter who traveled in the Rockies around 1879. (He says he gave up his deer lease in Scotland in 1878.) Includes chapters on wapiti, (elk) pronghorn antelope, bighorns, Indian trails and grizzly bears. Williamson was an (amateur) photographer himself and the book is replete with very large quality photos of camp scenes and the game he bagged. He got several outstanding elk with main antlers over 50 inches and very good mule deer and bighorn. One of his guides was prone to a nip of the "whiskey jar" but this was soon solved by dumping the contents in the local creek for the enjoyment of the fishes. He used a "500 Express rifle" presumably a double. He started in "Montezuma” New Mexico in the middle of August and the trip lasted about 3 months. In the back he gives a list of items needed for a 3 month trip and 3 people, a total of $500 USD including all equipment, horses, tents and guides. Rare early account of a hunting trip in the US. Those were the days!
