Safaris to the Dark Continent where almost unheard of till Teddy Roosevelt embarked on his giant safari in 1909. Employing hundreds of porters the safari lasted for months on end and covered Kenya, Uganda and the Southern Sudan. Several professional white hunters were employed such as F.C. Selous, Bill Judd and others. After Roosevelt returned to the US an enormous amount of publicity was created on safaris world wide. The Teddy Roosevelt expedition can truly be viewed as the starting point of the modern safaris. TR's classic account of his 1909-1910 African safari.
