HUNTING WITH RIFLE AND CAMERA IN THE CANADIAN ROCKIES
Private printing. 1916 New York, no pagination, 32 photographic plates, ltd to 20 copies. A very good copy, a later binding that almost exactly replicates the original 3/4 leather and cloth binding. Item #001833
Privately produced and issued without a printed title page. Features a hand-colored frontispiece, along with thirty-two mounted photographs by the author and others, each accompanied by printed captions and small vignette drawings in the corners. Also includes nine photographic reproductions of drawings by Ed Deming, and concludes with an original watercolor by Deming—no two copies containing the same illustration. The expedition was set near Laggan, where the group aimed to photograph bighorn sheep, Rocky Mountain goats, and grizzly bears. The book presents the diary of one of the author’s “winter reunions” with his friends—Dr. Brooks, John Murgatroyd, George Clifton, Ed Deming, and others. Joseph McAleenan, a New York jeweler and diamond expert who at one time owned the Hope Diamond, organized the trip and secured the services of Jimmy Simpson—renowned as one of the leading guides in the Canadian Rockies.
