Church was a British explorer/hunter. In this book he pursues maral (Asian elk), ibex and Siberian roe. Author traveled from Srinagar in two directions; first North of Lake Issik Kul and then west to Chimkent and Tashkent, then back via the same route and further East into China. Much of this area was open to hunting until recently. NB: two printings of this book were issued, one with a decorated front cover and one without. This is the (best) decorated cover edition.
