Volume 1: Geographical, Descriptive and Historical, volume 2: Routes. A complete inventory of the Sudan as it was around 1900; listing of provinces, types of tribes that inhabit the various regions, administration, both local and British, religions, affiliations, types of commerce, domestic stock, crops, routes, and game animals. In addition notes on elevations of mountains, climates, and rivers. Each district has a history with who the local rulers were, what tribe was friendly or hostile with what other tribes, which were Arab dominated and even a note on how one entire districted was "leased" to the sister of a Sultan! In short a wonderful colonial publication the depth and breadth of which will never be repeated and our best guess is that nothing like it today exists on the Sudan anno 2015!
