Author was a US commercial agent, secretary of the treasure for the Gabon. He traveled from England to West Africa where he visited Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Gold Cost, Bonny and Ferdinand Po, Cameroon and Gabon. He did some missionary work. There is no hunting except for a small section on manatus hunting by natives, which is like the manatee of North America. Well illustrated in an attractive binding with a large gilt lion on front cover.
