Item #002743 HUNTING THE ELEPHANT IN AFRICA; And Other Recollections of Thirteen Years' Wanderings. Stigand C. H.

HUNTING THE ELEPHANT IN AFRICA; And Other Recollections of Thirteen Years' Wanderings.

MacMillan & Co, Limited. 1913 New York, 1st edn, 379pp, illus, fold-out chart. Very good. Item #002743

Together with Bell, Sutherland, and Neumann, this book is one of a handful of elephant classics. Stigand was a good writer, and it shows in this work. Elephant hunting galore. These days equally as scarce as the other elephant hunting classics. Please note; this book was issued in several variant editions in 1913 in "London" and "New York". However all copies were printed by the Northwood Press in Massachusetts. The “London” editions were predominantly bound in red cloth while the “New York” editions most were mostly bound in blue cloth with a gilt kudu head on the front cover. From a collector’s point of view there is no difference to owning a London or New York edition as all copies of the 1913 edition were printed in the US. However, the US edition has the more attractive cover stamping.
