Item #001733 WILD LIFE IN CENTRAL AFRICA. Lyell D. D.

WILD LIFE IN CENTRAL AFRICA

The Field & Queen (Horace Cox) Ltd. 1913 London, 1st edn, 284pp, photos and drawings. Very good copy, stamping and gilt bright on original dark green cloth, inner hinges renewed with linen retaining original end papers. Item #001733

One of Lyell's scarcest and most desirable titles. Virtually an encyclopedia on Central African big game with much on elephants. Lyell was the author of seven books on African big game hunting, although this is probably among the scarcest. This work recounts a 10 year span that Lyell hunted in Northeastern Rhodesia [now Zambia] and Nyasaland [Malawi]. There are innumerable recounting of hunting elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros, hippopotamus, lion, leopard, sable, eland, and a host of other game. Hunting venues include the Zambesi, Luangwa, and Bua rivers, the Chiromo Marsh, and the Tuchila Plain. There is also an interesting chapter on fatal encounters between hunters and their game. As with most of Lyell's works, there is considerable detail on the exploits of other sportsmen and also drawings on how to treat your trophies in the field, photos of bullet performance, point of aim and how to cape. A very complete, interesting and well illustrated book. Some comments from Czech.
